Electric moped subscription London — frequently asked questions
Do I need a licence to rent an electric moped in London?
Yes. To ride an electric moped in London you need either a full motorcycle licence or a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) certificate. CBT is a one-day course valid for two years — book one with any accredited motorcycle training school. If you don’t have a CBT yet, the CYCL Carr-e electric cargo bike requires no licence.
Is servicing included in the subscription?
Yes. Standard maintenance every 2,500 miles is included, along with consumable parts replaced during each service.
Is insurance included in the subscription?
Yes. Third-party insurance is included in all plans. Optional theft and damage cover is available on top.
What happens in case of theft or damage?
In case of theft, police needs to be notified immediately, and we can help you recover it by using our GPS tracking system.
For your peace of mind, we can also offer an optional anti-theft/damages insurance on top of the rental.
Is Moon Fleets available outside London?
Moon Fleets currently operates exclusively in London, with our base in West London, so all services are optimised for London riders.
Do electric mopeds pay the ULEZ charge in London?
No. All Moon Fleets vehicles are fully electric and exempt from the ULEZ charge across Greater London, 24/7.
Can I park an electric moped for free in London?
Electric mopeds can use motorcycle bays across London, many of which are free or low-cost depending on the borough. Moon Fleets recommends dedicated parking apps to help you find legal spots.
Can I share my vehicle with someone else?
Yes. You may share the vehicle with another person, provided they complete a document check and receive approval from us beforehand.
Please note that the individual who signs the contract remains fully responsible and liable for the moped at all times, regardless of who is using it.
Can I ride with a passenger?
No. Pillion passengers are strictly not permitted on the vehicles. Riding with a passenger is not allowed under any circumstances.
Electric moped subscription vs London travelcard

A Zone 1–3 annual travelcard costs £2,328 (2024/25 TfL pricing). A Moon Fleets subscription starts at £179 per month — £2,148 per year — for a vehicle that goes door to door on your schedule, not TfL’s.

Electricity costs far less than petrol for regular commuting. Electric mopeds also have fewer moving parts than combustion engines, which reduces wear and long-term maintenance costs.
No ULEZ charge
All Moon Fleets vehicles are fully electric and exempt from the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charge across Greater London, 24 hours a day. At the current ULEZ rate of £12.50/day, that’s a saving of up to £1,825 a year compared with a petrol vehicle.
Vehicle tax included in the rental
We’ll cover the vehicle tax cost for your ride for all the duration of the rental.
If you choose a rent-to-buy formula, once the vehicle become yours at the end of the contract, it will be up to you.
No parking fees in most motorcycle bays
Electric mopeds can park in many motorcycle bays around London, often free or at low cost depending on the borough policies.
We recommend dedicated parking apps and local guidance so you always know where you can park legally and conveniently.
